On the evening of 22nd June 2010 I got the worst call that you could imagine. It was from the owner of Daisy who was born in the March 2010 litter. Kathy was ringing to say that she had some bad news about Daisy these are words I dread to hear from any owner. She was ringing to tell me that she had been savagely attacked by a wait for it a Labrador! Not something you can ever imagine happen, Kath was just walking down her road, with Daisy and Charlie her tri cavalier. It was a beautiful evening and she thought she would take the dogs for a walk to meet her husband Nick from work, never imagining the nightmare that was about to begin.
Walking past another house, she seen a Labrador that has form for attacking smaller dogs, before Kath had time to back track or pick Daisy up, the Labrador had shot out of its property and grabbed Daisy round the throat. When Kath managed to pick Daisy up, even though she was in a terriable state and crying, she still managed to wag her tail at Kath.
Kath's son, managed to get her to the vets within a few minutes, the vet said that she hadnt seen damage like that on such a young pup, she had lost so much blood. They x rayed Daisy as well and fortunately no bones were broken, the best they could do was wrap her wounds up to stem the bleeding and make her comfortable over night, if she makes it, then there is a good chance she will pull through and they can repair the damage to her kneck.
It was a horrific attack on such a young puppy and Daisy is currently receiving special care at her vets, I have had a text this morning to say that the hospital had been in touch with Kath to say that Daisy is a bit better, although she is a bit groggy and in pain. However, later on in the morning Kath rang to tell me that things were not looking so hopeful for Daisy and that she is extremely poorly.
I went to see Kath last night to give her a hug as no words can comfort any owner in these circumstances.
I am bringing this savage attack to everybodies awareness as its not just the usual breeds that you would expect to attack another dog. I would say to everybody be on your guard if another dog approaches your dog, I am a great fan of letting my dogs off the lead in the park, but this has now made me think twice. I would rather bring home my dogs safely from a walk in the park kept on the lead than have to go through the same nightmare that Kath and Nick are going through.
9th July 2010 - Daisy is doing fantastic and recovering really well from her injuries. If I get any news about whether the owner of the labrador is to be prosecuted by the Dog Warden then I will update the site, but this could take months.
I have been asked if there is any way possible for people to leave messages of Support for Daisy so if you would like to leave a message on this page, then I am sure it will be appreciated by her family.
